The name of this organization is the 49er Ski Club, hereinafter referred to as the Club. The Club is nonprofit, non-sectarian and nonpolitical.
  1. The purpose of the Club is to promote a congenial atmosphere for group skiing.
  2. To achieve this purpose, the Club will hold regularly scheduled meetings and send out emails informing members of meetings, social activities, trips, skiing dates, etc.
  1. Qualifications:
    1. An Individual must be an active skier or snowboarder at least 49 years of age to become eligible for membership in the Club. His or her spouse or companion residing at the same address may also be a member.
    2. Each member will be required to actively participate on the Executive Board or a committee, or chair one function once every three years. Failure to meet this requirement could result in termination of membership.
    3. All members must attend at least two General Business meetings each year to retain membership.
  2. Applying for membership:
    1. Applications for prospective membership, along with current application fees, will be accepted only during the period May 1 TO THE FOLLOWING March 1.
    2. Prospective members must be sponsored by a current member in good standing for at least two years, who will facilitate the applicant’s assimilation into the club and verify the applicant’s compliance with membership requirements.
    3. After the application, application fee, and dues have been received, prospective members must participate in five officially scheduled ski outings, three of which must be weekdays posted on the 49er Facebook page, or club scheduled mid-week ski days; and attend two general business meetings of the club.
    4. Skiing/snowboarding and attendance requirements must be completed during the period of May 1 through the end of the Club ski schedule. If the requirements are not met, the applicant may reapply as a new prospective on the following May 1. Credits for completion of participation requirements may not be carried forward.
    5. After a prospective member’s sponsor has certified the completion of the aforementioned requirements, the prospective member shall then submit a membership application to the membership chair for acceptance. Upon acceptance of the membership application by the membership chairman, the prospective member shall be granted full rights and privileges of membership.

Annual dues shall be payable and shall be deemed delinquent if not paid by October 31. The amount of dues shall be recommended by the Board.

Following written notification of any proposed dues change to the members, ratification of the dues change shall require a yes vote by a majority of the members at the designated meeting.

  1. The Board shall be responsible for conducting the business of the Club. The Board shall meet monthly or at times as deemed necessary by the President.
  2. The Board shall consist of the following: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, General Activities Coordinator, Skiing Activities Coordinator, Social Activities Coordinator, and Communications Coordinator.
  3. The President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected for a one-year term at the April meeting by a majority vote of members present, and shall assume their duties on June 1. The President shall appoint General Activities, Ski Activities, Social Activities, and Communications Coordinators.
  4. The immediate past President shall serve the board in an advisory capacity and shall not have a vote on matters brought before the board.
  5. In the event of a vacancy on the Board, the President shall select a member to fill that vacancy until the next election.
  6. The Executive Board shall have the power to waive, on an annual or permanent basis, the requirements of Article III A.3. and B.3. relating to membership on an individual basis, depending on justifying circumstances.
  1. President: Executive officer of the Club. Will preside at all meetings of the Club; call special meetings when necessary; appoint the coordinators, all committees; and direct the Board in their activities to carry out the objectives of the Club.
  2. Vice President: Will assist the president in the performance of the duties as stated above; officiate in the absence of the President; and will perform all duties pertaining to new membership applications.
  3. Secretary: Will record the minutes of all club and board meetings.
  4. Treasurer: Will receive all monies due the Club; disburse all monies expended by the Club for approved expenses incurred by officers, committees, and/or members; provide a monthly accountability of Club finances, citing receipts, expenses and balances, and prepare a tentative budget for Board approval.
  5. Skiing Activities Coordinator: Shall be Chairperson of the Snow Activities Committee which shall plan, organize, coordinate, and promote a program of snow related activities.
  6. General Activities Coordinator: Shall be Chairperson of the General Activities Committee which shall plan, organize, coordinate and promote a program of athletic and recreation activities other than snow related events/activities.
  7. Social Coordinator: Shall plan, organize, coordinate and promote a social affairs program.
  8. Communications Coordinator: Shall review, coordinate and disseminate information to the membership through the channels of communications.
  9. The Board shall assume such duties as assigned by the President. Among these duties shall be:
    1. Audit, in April, the records maintained by the Treasurer to ensure their accuracy and adequacy.
    2. Propose change of duties as needed.
    3. Propose budget to the members for adoption at the October meeting.
  1. The President will appoint a Nominating Committee consisting of three (3) members. The Nominating Committee will be appointed no later than the February meeting of the current fiscal year. This committee will present its slate in an email.
  2. Annual elections will be held at the April meeting by a majority of members present.
  1. The consumption of intoxicating beverages at Club functions shall be the responsibility of members and their guests. No member or guest shall hold the Club, its officers, or its membership liable for any consequences resulting from the consumption of such intoxicating beverages.
  2. Each member is expected to limit guest attendance to a minimum at major activities.
  3. Members may sponsor only two (2) Prospective Members in a two (2) year period.
  4. All tours, trips and other activities arranged for or by the Club are for the convenience and pleasure of the members and their guests who desire to participate. The officers of the Club do not assume responsibility for the well being or safety of the participants or passengers, or their property, in any matters pertaining to such tours, trips, etc.
  5. Members who fail to pay annual dues or other assessments of the Club will lose membership.
  1. The Board will have the authority to request a member to resign when the conduct of such person is considered detrimental to the Club. If the member disagrees with the decision of the Board, the right of appeal to the general membership is available.
  2. The Board has the right to control the premises of any gathering of the Club by refusal of admission or expulsion of members or guests.

These bylaws may be amended by a majority of the Board and ratification by a majority of the membership present at a designated meeting.
