About this event
Lake Washington, Deep Water Ship Channel, West Sacramento, launch 9:00. Put in at the Barge Canal Access boat ramp: free parking, only bush toilets onsite (you can stop at the Arco on Jefferson for a restroom on the way). We’ll paddle to the locks connecting the canal to the Sacramento River, then past the Port of Sacramento, with its tugboats, rice silos, and cargo ships, to Lake Washington, home of UC Davis’ Racing Club. We should see kingfishers, green herons, great blue herons, egrets, geese and some raptors.
Directions: after crossing the Sacramento River on I-80 West, take Exit 3 to Jefferson Blvd in West Sacramento. Follow Jefferson Blvd south (left) 1.3 miles—just after crossing the ship canal, turn right at the stoplight at Locks Drive into the Barge Canal Access parking lot.
Optional lunch: Chando’s Tacos, 2530 Boatman Avenue, West Sacramento (5 minutes from the boat launch). We’ll take our food outdoors, but bring a mask to order inside. This is an authentic Tijuana Mexican street taco restaurant—draft beers, separate checks, clean and quick service—perfect for 49er’s! If you’ve never had a mulita or an elote, you’re in for a treat! Check out their menu: http://chandostacos.com/menu/ . From Chando’s it’s an easy 4 minutes back to the Harbor Blvd entrance to I-80.
Questions: Tom Miner 916-204-8021, minertom@gmail.com .
