Join me, Bill Hammond, on Tuesday, 11 May at 10:00 AM, for a wildflower hike at Salmon Falls, by Lake Folsom. A bit of history of the area is shown at the bottom of this email.

What to expect.
This is a wildflower hike, so we will be doing a bit of meandering. From the Old Salmon Falls parking lot to the furthest point is about 2.5 round trip miles. We will probably do an additional half mile meandering around to take photos. The pace will be leisurely on mostly flat ground. We will dip down and up crossing some creeks, and will have a gentle uphill the last few hundred yards when we return to our cars.

Most of the hike will be in treeless areas on a flower covered lake bed which is normally 15 or more feet below the lakes surface. We will see some ruins of the normally submerged town of Salmon Falls and the Salmon Falls bridge. There is a portal potty at the trailhead. Dogs are allowed on a leash, park regulation.

We will have our lunch under tree shade at the halfway point.

The hike begins at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, 11 May. You should be back to your car by 1:30 PM.

I guarantee that you will see the best lupine fields ever, or your money back.

What to bring
Bring your lunch, plenty of water, hat, sun glasses, and a small tarp or equivalent to sit on in the grass for lunch. Hiking sticks are good for balance when crossing the creeks.

Directions to the trailhead
Take Hwy 50 toward Tahoe. Turn off at Eldorado Hills Blvd and continue north. As you cross Green Valley Road, a signal is there, Eldorado Hills Blvd becomes Salomon Falls Road. Stay on Salmon Falls road for about 2.9 miles, I’m not sure of this milage figure, until you come to the Falcon Crest parking area on your left. Take the paved road at the end of the Falcon Crest parking area down the hill about .7 miles to the Old Salmon Falls parking area.

SEE MY POST FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE HIKE AND HISTORY OF THE AREA.
