Let’s start our season next week, Wednesday April 16, as Marv used to do with a close, easy paddle at Mather Lake. We haven’t gone out to Mather for two years due to the proliferation of aquatic plants, but the water level should be high enough to make a decent paddle possible. As many of you know, the biggest reason to go there is to see the baby swans (cygnets). At our last visit, there were three swan families.
The address for your GPS is 4051 Zinfandel Drive, Mather, CA. The entrance to the park is about .2 mi (that’s 2/10ths, not 2 miles) south of Douglas on Zinfandel; there’s a wooden sign and a yellow iron gate. Entrance fee is $6 at the iron ranger, which is located by the large blue shade structure at the edge of the parking area/lawn; or use your County Parks pass.
Drive into the cul de sac to unload, and launch from the grassy area to the right of the dock as you face the lake, then park in the big lot.
